Open Books was an exhibition within the RCA that I visited a few months ago. It is an exhibition about books, about the exhibition of books. This was the first exhibition I had visited that examines the form, role and content a book plays in a completely self reflexive manner. With this the viewers, as part of the exhibition, where asked to select pages within the books on show to them be photocopied and then made into a new book, which adds to this endless cycle. It is interesting how the designers and producers of the exhibited books choose to talk about why had produced the form in that particular way. The exhibition itself represents the endless, self reflexive nature of producing an exhibition of books.
This archive is to examine the use and function of book display units for a range of purpose and reading mechanisms.
